The 1918 Ames Cloverleaf Model T is a fascinating and rare coachbuilt variant of the standard Ford Model T chassis, created by the Ames Body Corporation—a company based in Owensboro, Kentucky. Rather than manufacturing complete automobiles, Ames specialized in custom bodies for existing chassis, most notably for Ford’s ubiquitous Model T. NOT available for purchase
Unique Features
- Coachbuilt: Unlike standard Model Ts made at Ford’s factories, Ames cars had hand-crafted bodies fitted to the stock chassis
- More stylish and upscale look compared to mass-produced Fords
- Step plates or sideboards and custom fenders added a more refined appearance
- Many were painted in colors other than black—since Ford only provided the chassis in black, but coachbuilders could finish bodies in a variety of hues
